Accessibility Statement

Accessibility Statement

Last update: 13th March 2025

This accessibility statement applies to https://whereilive.reigate-banstead.gov.uk

We aim to make the website as accessible as possible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Content is structured logically and contains alternate descriptions where appropriate. No content exists on the website which would require a visual queue to access. The website is navigable via a range of technologies.

We have used the GOV.UK design system (https://design-system.service.gov.uk/) to build the website because of its focus on accessibility.

This website is run by Local Authority Technology CIC. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. This means you should be able to:

  • Navigate the website using just a keyboard.

  • Navigate the website using speech recognition software.

  • Listen to the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver).

  • Zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen.

To help make the website even more accessible:

  • We’ve made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

  • We omit animated components like carousels from the website.

  • We never use imagery or colour to signpost content - just text.

AbilityNet (https://abilitynet.org.uk/) has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Compliance Status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Version 2.1 Level AA, and in many cases complies with the AAA standard.

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • We cannot ensure the accessibility and accuracy of data which is automatically pulled from public sources.

  • You cannot modify the line height or spacing of text without additional add-ons.

  • Externally linked maps are not as accessible as the main website.

We are currently working through these to make the website fully accessible. When we publish new content, we will make sure our attachments, videos, maps, and links meet accessibility standards. If you are having problems accessing our content in the meantime, please contact us by emailing contact@localauthority.tech

What we're doing to improve accessibility

As part of our commitment to improve the accessibility of this website, we are maintaining a project board to work through all the accessibility issues we have identified. Improving the accessibility of our content is a priority for us and we are committed to resolving the issues identified. This includes:

  • An accessibility review of all data: we’re actively reviewing all content across the site. Non-accessible content is being identified and prioritised for updates or replacement with accessible formats.

  • GOV UK System adoption: we’re working to migrate all website content to exclusively use the GOV UK Design System, ensuring accessibility is built into the foundation of web pages.

  • Reviewing and updating ambiguous links.

  • Investigating how to improve our mapping solutions to make them more accessible.

  • Reviewing and updating images that do not have text alternatives.

Supported assistive software

The SPS website is compatible with most standard assistive software, including the screen readers NonVisual Desktop Access (NVDA) and JAWS.

Printing webpages in your browser

If text appears too small when you print a page, you can adjust the settings to a size that suits you. Here’s how it’s done in the most common web browsers:

Firefox
If using Mozilla Firefox, go to ‘Print Preview’ in the ‘File’ menu and change the page scale to the preferred size.

Internet Explorer
If using Internet Explorer, go to ‘Print Preview’ in the ‘File’ menu and change the page scale to the preferred size.

Chrome
Chrome does not give sizing options within the print options and your computer’s ‘Print Preferences’ will need to be used.

Safari
Before going to print, increase the webpage font by pressing the ‘Ctrl’ and ‘+’ keys at the same time or by going to ‘Menu’ then ‘View’ then ‘Zoom in’. The printed page will be printed at the new font size.

Opera
Before going to print, increase the webpage font by pressing the ‘Ctrl’ and ‘+’ keys at the same time or by going to ‘Menu’ then ‘View’ then ‘Zoom’. The printed page will be printed at the new font size.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on 13th March 2025. We plan to review our website and update this statement at least yearly.

This accessibility statement, and the latest accessibility updates, have been prepared using feedback from the most recent accessibility scan conducted by the development team, with contributions from website users. Their review included automated and manual testing methods, identifying areas of compliance and any potential issues.

We have identified additional accessibility concerns through internal manual review and are also planning a full automated audit of the whole website. We will update this statement with the results from the audit.
